I’m the fairest thing that ever
happened to you.
You found the rose,
got through your neighbor’s fence;
the sprint cut you a little.
you didn’t have time to learn
the land before you
dove in to
someone else’s garden.

but you’re fine and
holding what you
came for and
keeping the stem
watered the whole
way home with your
sliced palm
and mellifluous
groan that carries you
swiftly home.
